Deciduous.  Showy purple red foliage all season long, turns deep amber in fall. Dense branching habit makes a superb hedge or barrier plant. Makes a fine background shrub for fence lines and to cover foundations. Avoid planting where you need access to meters, crawl spaces and the like. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring. For a tidy, neat appearance, shear annually to shape. Pruning time: spring after flowering.
