Characteristics: Reblooming cultivar with giant mophead flowers, striking ruby-black stems support the flower heads, this is a big leaf variety which are unique because the flower color is determined by the soil acidity more acidic soil results in blue blooms (pH between 4.5-5.5), more alkaline soil results in pink flowers (pH above 6.5), in New Mexico hydrangeas cannot tolerate full afternoon sun, not drought tolerant, pruning is not necessary unless to remove weak, damaged or diseased stems, wonderful burgundy-red fall color
